Earth Day in Festival Park offers a unique chance to engage people of all ages in learning about the environment and the importance of protecting our planet. Instead of just reading articles or watching documentaries, interactive games and educational materials can make the experience more memorable and impactful. Learn how to celebrate Earth Day by combining fun and learning through selected activities and resources.

Why use games and educational materials for Earth Day?

Games and educational tools provide a hands-on experience that helps people better understand environmental issues. When players actively participate, they retain information longer and develop a personal connection to the topic. This approach is effective for children, families, and adults seeking to deepen their knowledge in an engaging way.

Types of games to celebrate Earth Day

Choosing the right games depends on the audience and the learning goals. Here are some popular types that work well for Earth Day:

  • Pipe Ball: Recycled PVC pipe, secured to plywood, transforms practical items into a game using tennis balls. What will be your high score?

  • Memory Lid: Flip plastic lids over to match recycled items. The more matches the more tickets you win.

  • Frizz Chair: We took old metal chairs, removed the seat to see if you could throw a frisbee through them, but it's not so easy.

  • Flush UR Poop: made from cardboard and recycled rubber. Can you toss your poop into the toilet and find out how it becomes compost?

  • That's just a few; we have many more games to try.

Educational materials to support learning

Alongside games, educational materials provide background information and activities that deepen understanding. Our non-profits and local businesses will show you ways to protect our environment. Take time from your games to learn from each of them.

Encouraging ongoing environmental awareness

Earth Day is a great starting point, but the goal is to inspire lasting care for the planet. Games and educational materials can help by:

  • Building knowledge that motivates action

  • Creating positive memories linked to environmental care

  • Encouraging family and community discussions about sustainability

  • Providing tools for continued learning and involvement

By making Earth Day celebrations interactive and fun, we help people develop everyday habits that protect the environment. Come out to Festival Park, 60 N. Parke St. Aberdeen from 11 AM - 3 PM for games, food, crafts, and prizes.
